What The Modern Yankee collects, what it doesn't, and how to reach us about your data.
Last updated April 27, 2026
The short version
The Modern Yankee is a one-editor digital magazine. We don’t run a store, we don’t sell data, and we don’t have an advertising network targeting you across the web. We collect the email address you give us if you sign up for the newsletter, and we collect the kind of basic visit data any website does. That’s the whole picture.
If you want to skip to the part that matters: write to hello@themodernyankee.com and we’ll delete anything we have on you within seven days.
What we collect
Newsletter subscribers
If you sign up for The Saturday Almanac — the weekly newsletter that goes out from newsletter.themodernyankee.com — we collect the email address you provide and a timestamp. We use it to send you the newsletter and nothing else. You can unsubscribe from the bottom of any letter, and the address is removed from our list.
We don’t sell, rent, or share the list. We don’t run “co-registrations” or partner mailings.
Site analytics
We use lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which posts people read and how they got here. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising tracker. The analytics tool we use stores aggregated visit data — country, page URL, referring site, and device type — without setting cookies that follow you across sites.
Server logs
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare maintains short-term operational logs (IP addresses, requests, response codes) for security and performance. We don’t read these logs and we don’t connect them to any user account.
What we don’t collect
- We don’t run advertising or retargeting trackers.
- We don’t set “essential cookies” or “preference cookies” that persist across sessions, beyond what’s required for the site to function.
- We don’t use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads remarketing, or any social-media tracking script.
- We don’t read your email contents (because we don’t have your email contents — only the address you gave us).
How affiliate links work
Some posts mention products we recommend. When we link to a product, we sometimes use an affiliate link — that’s a regular link with a tracking code that pays us a small commission if you buy. The price you pay is the same; the merchant gives us a cut.
We only use affiliate links to products we’d recommend regardless of the commission. The full list of programs we participate in: Amazon Associates, Bookshop.org. If we ever join others, we’ll add them here.
Your rights
You can:
- See what we have on you. Email hello@themodernyankee.com and we’ll send it to you.
- Delete what we have on you. Same email. Done within seven days.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter. Bottom of any letter. Or email us.
If you’re in the EU/UK, the rights above already cover everything GDPR requires of a publication this size.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up for our newsletter, email us and we’ll remove the address.

Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and note what changed in this section. The site is in active development as of April 2026; expect minor updates as we add infrastructure (newsletter platform, analytics setup, etc.).
